Use-Case
A regional payer specific to Medicare called upon Change Healthcare Consulting for business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) security planning services. The client had a lot of disaster policies on paper but lacked governance implementation. They also sought out subject matter expertise (SME) to navigate Medicare regulatory “requirements” versus “recommendations” for business continuity. With a short 5-month timeline, the client wanted an assessment on recovery objectives, gaps, and exposures, as well as assistance developing a realistic BC/DR plan.
Challenge
The Consulting team identified that the client had a strong reliance upon technology and their physical building for day-to-day business operations. During the project, the client’s main building lost power, which provided a real-time example of how important a quick-to-implement disaster plan was needed.
Solutions
The Consulting team worked with the client to help them understand how a proper plan and vendor agreements were critical to keep them above water until a threat passed. The team also developed a tabletop exercise plan and materials for full test exercises based on realistic and customized scenarios for their work culture and demographics. Most importantly, the Consulting team helped the client realize they have accountability beyond the auditors, but to their Medicare customers first and foremost.
Results
The Consulting team built a strong client relationship, which allowed the client to become very transparent with existing challenges. The team provided them a final BC plan that gave them a realistic strategy based on their current position and advice on future strategy development as their organization and program matures. As a payer with no technical implementation experience, they expressed sincere gratitude and were impressed with the level of work the Consulting team provided.
